Dry Fly Fishing , with Glen Pointon

This was a guided day with Glen Pointon with the aim of catching a few fish on the dry fly (or, more importantly, to learn how to fish this beat using a dry fly). Having walked from the car park at the bottom of the beat, watching out for rising fish as we walked along, we soon reached Pike Pool, and here I am posing next to the gate into the private section of the beat, all ready for the off.

Starting off with a Deer Haired Sedge (with red tail) I was soon into the fish, although they were of no real size. I was fishing both upstream and downstream with success in both directions.

After this early success we set off to fish the beat up to The Temple, catching one or two small fish along the way.
At The Temple there were a couple of good sized fish holding station. Neither seemed to be actively feeding and despite my best attempts I could not tempt them into taking any of the flies I tried.

Moving back downstream towards the end of the session we arrived at a run where we had seen a nice trout holding station at the start of the day. A change of fly to a Hare's Ear suspender buzzer and first drift through the fish took the fly. A fish gave a really good fight but was soon safely in the net, a really nice brown trout on which to end the day.

Overall a very pleasant day, several fish caught on different flies/techniques and hopefully a lot of knowledge in the bag for future trips.
